NYC, Washington DC, Nashville and Greensboro – Day 3 – High Line

Hey there, fellow adventurers! It’s time for another installment of our wacky family escapades. Brace yourselves for some cheeky humor and amusing anecdotes from our day in the Big Apple walking the High Line. So, sit back, relax, and let’s dive into our misadventures!

Now, I must confess, we had a bit of a slow start to the day. Breakfast didn’t happen until a whopping 09:00 at the Hotel Riu Plaza. I mean, who needs an alarm clock when you have a family like ours, right? But fear not, we eventually crawled out of our comfy beds and embarked on our New York City adventure.

First stop, we checked out the subway for our grand departure tomorrow. Nothing screams “tourist” more than a family huddled around a subway map, pretending to understand how it all works. Nevertheless, we managed to decipher the lines and made our way to our next destination, albeit with a few puzzled looks from the locals.

Next up, we decided to stretch our legs and walk a good 1.2 miles in a mere 25 minutes. Impressive, I know! Our destination? The High Line at the junction of 10th and 30th. For those who are wondering (and too lazy to Google), the High Line is a magical elevated park built on a historic freight rail line. It’s like walking through a lush garden in the sky, minus the annoying birds stealing your food.

We spent the next three hours exploring every nook and cranny of the High Line, all the way down to its end at 812 Washington Street. It was like a botanical adventure, with vibrant flowers, quirky art installations, and stunning views of the city. Oh, and let’s not forget the occasional jogger in too-tight spandex, giving us a healthy dose of entertainment.

Feeling famished after our High Line expedition, we decided to refuel at the one and only McDonald’s. Classy, I know! But hey, those golden arches have a certain allure that even the fanciest restaurants can’t match. With burgers in hand, we strutted down the street like fast food connoisseurs, ready to conquer the concrete jungle.

Of course, no family outing is complete without a shopping spree. Our next stop was the Levi store, where we had a “jeans-ius” time. Michele, ever the fashionista, managed to find the perfect white tee-shirt. It was a monumental moment in retail history, celebrated with a round of applause from fellow shoppers (or maybe just a casual glance from a disinterested store employee).

Now, prepare for the second highlight of our day—The Empire State Building. For those living under a rock (or in a cozy Hobbit hole), the Empire State Building is like New York City’s version of a skyscraper on steroids. It stands tall and proud, offering breathtaking views of the city that make your heart skip a beat. We explored the 80th and 86th floors like a flock of excited pigeons, snapping pictures like there was no tomorrow.

Our shopping frenzy continued at Macy’s, where we embarked on a mission to find the elusive skorts. Alas, it seemed the fashion gods were against us, as our search turned up empty-handed. But fear not, fellow skort enthusiasts, we shall never give up the quest for this ultimate fashion hybrid!

With weary legs and a disappointed fashionista, we hopped back on the subway (much to Michele’s dismay) and made our way to Times Square. It might not have been the most glamorous mode of transport, but hey, at least it saved Michele’s legs from total mutiny.

As we strolled back to the hotel, we couldn’t resist a quick detour to the M&M store. It was a pilgrimage for Michele’s sweet tooth. The moment we stepped inside, it was as if we had entered a world of candy-coated dreams. Walls lined with colorful M&M dispensers, giant chocolate sculptures, and a tantalizing aroma that could lure even the most disciplined among us into a sugar-induced frenzy. Michele’s eyes widened with excitement as she filled her bag with every possible M&M flavor known to mankind. Our family motto: When life gives you M&Ms, grab a handful!

Now, my dear friends, it’s time for a well-deserved break. We retired to our hotel, feeling both exhilarated and exhausted from our jam-packed day. But just when we thought the adventure was over, hunger struck like a midnight thief. With grumbling stomachs and no time or energy to cook, we ventured back out for some takeout pizza. Of course, we couldn’t resist the temptation of grabbing a couple of beers while waiting. It’s all about multitasking, right?

Finally, we bid the bustling streets of New York City goodnight and settled in for an early night’s rest. Tomorrow, we have an early start with our flight to Washington, D.C. So, as we drift off to dreamland, let’s raise a glass (or two) to the vibrant city that never sleeps and the incredible memories we’ve made. Until next time, dear readers, stay adventurous, stay cheeky, and always remember to pack extra socks because you never know when you’ll step in a puddle in the Big Apple!

Yours in travel and laughter,
