NYC, Washington DC, Nashville and Greensboro – Day seven

Hey there, fellow adventurers!

I must say, today started off on a surprisingly reasonable note. Michele and I kicked off the morning by treating ourselves to some bagels and coffee at 2 Sisters Deli on C Street SW in good ol’ Washington DC. And guess what? We went there again because yesterday’s experience was simply top-notch. Great service, excellent food, and all at a reasonable price. Can’t argue with that, can you?

With our bellies satisfied, we hopped on the metro and made our way to Eastern Market. Ah, the joys of public transportation! Once we arrived, we embarked on a leisurely stroll, taking in the sights and sounds of the US naval base and The Yards marina and park. We even managed to avoid getting lost! Go us!

Now, here’s where things got really exciting. We headed back to the Eastern Market area to meet up with my long-lost 2nd cousin, Heather. I hadn’t seen her in over 50 years! Can you believe it? The moment we laid eyes on each other, it was like a time machine whisked us back to our childhood days. We laughed and we shared stories about our family connections while devouring some delectable dishes at Bombay Street Food on 8th Street SE. Seriously, if you ever find yourself there, do yourself a favor and try the chicken biryani. It’s a taste sensation, thanks to the talented chef who whipped it up.

After bidding Heather farewell and promising not to let another 50 years slip by, Michele and I decided to take a tour of the Capitol Building. And guess what? We managed to score tickets to visit the legendary Library of Congress. Heather, you genius, thanks for the suggestion! The architecture alone left us in awe, and we soaked up all the knowledge and history that surrounded us. If books could talk, they would have definitely whispered some jaw-dropping tales.

Feeling like seasoned explorers, we made our way over to the Washington DC Union Station. Another impressive building, I tell you! But before we continue our sightseeing spree, we couldn’t resist popping into The Dubliner restaurant for a quick pint of Guinness. And boy, oh boy, that pint was a true masterpiece. A perfect way to recharge and keep those energy levels high!

To wrap up the day’s adventures, we hopped back on the metro, regrouped at the hotel, and then ventured out for a light bite and a couple of well-deserved beers. And can I just take a moment to brag about my amazing wife, Michele? Today marked her 59th mile of walking in just one week. Give it up for the walking champion right here!

Now, as the night settles in, we’re back at the hotel, simply chilling and basking in the memories we’ve made. But fear not, dear readers, because our journey is far from over. Tomorrow is our last day in Washington DC before we jet off to Nashville, where a whole new set of adventures await us. So stay tuned for more tales of mischief, merriment, and maybe even some country tunes!

Good night, folks! Sleep tight and dream big.
