Les Biches: St Hilaire de Riez, Vendée – 2002

Again we took all 4 kids to France where we stayed at Les Biches in the Vendee.

(Eurocamp and Vendee)

The Journey

This time we elected to sail from Portsmouth to St Malo for the outbound journey. For the inbound journey we changed our route back home and sailed from St Malo to Poole. Personally, I think that this was the best crossing we have done as we got a 4-berth cabin and 2 club class seats (even though we all managed to get in the cabin OK) on the boat for the 12-hour outward crossing and just seats for the 4.5 hour crossing back.

The drive this time took just over 3 hours to complete the 160-mile route even though we travelled further south than our trip to Brittany as we did not have to negotiate the Cherbourg peninsular.

The Campsite

This time we opted for a 3-bed caravan which was a little easier although Sam had to share with Josh in a twin room. The other two boys shared a room with the bunk beds in.

This site seemed a little bit smaller than the one in Brittany but in no way less enjoyable.

Weather

The weather was warmer than Brittany, but Michele still wanted it warmer! Again, we had some wet days even in August, but again this did not spoil the holiday.

Day trips out.

We had some nice day trips out but especially to Noimoutier which is famous for its Noirmoutier salt to the North of the site at Les Biches and Les Sables-d’Olonne to the South of the campsite.

The kids again had great activities with the animation team from Eurocamp. Additional activities were organised for the old kids which included scuba diving in the Les Biches pool and climbing through the trees similar to the ‘Go Ape’ experience in the UK
