Bonne Anse Plage: Royan, Gironde – 2005

We only took the two youngest boys here to Bonne Anse Plage campsite in France the other two children were off doing other activities.

(Eurocamp and Gironde)

The Journey

Again, we sailed from Portsmouth to St Malo and the back via St Malo to Poole. This was our preferred travel route when we last visited France.

The campsite

We had a 4-berth cabin on the boat. This allowed us to eat and have a few beers before settling down for a good night’s rest. All ahead of the drive across France the day after.

The drive was just under 5 hours to cover the 280 miles.

The campsite

We stayed in a 2-bedroom caravan this time with the boys having bunk beds. The site was a good site for kids as it was very safe.

There were plenty of activities for them all to do. We didn’t go in the pool here as often as the other sites we had visited as the water was very cold, in fact it was safe to say it was the coldest pool I had ever been in! The Bonne Anse Plage campsite was well laid out for biking with many cycle tracks.

Day Trips

We had several good days out which included a trip to Zoo de la Palmyre only a short distance away from the campsite at Bonne Anse Plage. Another good day out to La Rochelle which was easy enough to get to as it was an hour’s drive north away from the campsite at Bonne Anse Plage.

The Weather

Warmer than the other 2 French sites as further south again. I think we all agreed that Bonne Anse Plage was the best French campsite we have been on though.
