CADmare Chronicles: A Whirlwind of CADventures and CADmare Survival Guide

The CAD Odyssey Unveiled

This week’s escapade in the realm of computer-aided design left me questioning whether I had unwittingly entered the CADmare dimension. It was a rollercoaster of server migrations, IT conundrums, and a dash of melancholy for good measure. Brace yourselves for the tale of my CADmare week at work.

The Great Server Migration

In a bold move, we finally bid adieu to our old haunts and embarked on a journey to the promised land of the ARCADIS CAD servers. Being the daring pioneer, As the CAD Manager I took the plunge for the initial trial. Naturally, a few hiccups ensued, but our IT wizards worked their magic, and soon, the green light flashed for a select few to follow suit.

Trial and Tribulations

As the first wave of users migrated seamlessly, a few digital gremlins emerged. Fear not, for our IT sorcerers swiftly banished these glitches. Buoyed by this success, we initiated the grand migration with two phases. Little did we know, the CADmare was about to tighten its grip.

Some users glided smoothly into the new CADverse, while others faced turbulence. Now, migrating users is a common teething issue, but our CADmare’s pièce de résistance was the impending doom of our own license server. With its expiration date looming on a Friday, we were teetering on the edge of a digital abyss.

A frantic call to our Autodesk fairy godparent ensued. Miraculously, our customer services manager materialized, waving a new license file with a temporal extension like a tech-savvy wizard. The digital clock was ticking, and the race against the impending CADpocalypse had begun.

The CADmare Dilemma

Friday saw a heroic collaboration between yours truly and our IT dream team, attempting to exorcise the lingering CADmare demons. Alas, a 100% resolution remained elusive, setting the stage for a sequel on Monday and Tuesday. The saga continues, and the CADmare lives to torment another week.

In Memoriam: A Touch of Sadness

Amidst the digital chaos, a poignant note struck. News of the passing of an ex-colleague, a beacon of positivity in the office, cast a somber shadow. Mike Goldstone, a Manchester United aficionado who wore his red-tinted glasses with pride, left an indelible mark. Rest in peace, dear star; you will be missed.

Family Affairs and Misadventures

On the domestic front, the youngest scion’s iPhone went rogue at school, never to be seen again. Insurance brought solace, but a £200 excess fee tempered the joy. Cue the disappointed emoji on the youngest one’s face.

In brighter news, the new car proved to be a delightful companion—nimble when needed and surprisingly frugal with its diesel consumption. Fifty-two miles per gallon is a feat worth celebrating in the midst of CADmayhem.

The Finale: Fergie’s Farewell and Wiggins’ Woes

As the week wound down, football history was made with a 5-5 draw between West Brom and Manchester United in Sir Alex Ferguson’s farewell game. Meanwhile, Bradley Wiggins bid adieu to the Giro de Italia due to a pesky chest infection, leaving a cloud of uncertainty over his upcoming Tour de France prospects.

And so, as we raise our digital glasses to the week that was, here’s to hoping for a smoother ride in the CADverse next week. May the CADmare be banished, and may our digital exploits be devoid of glitches.
