Sky Princess at Skjolden Sognefjord 4

Beyond the Beauty: Exploring the Enchanting Fjords of Norway

Cruising the Fjords: A Tale of Adventure, Beauty, and Quirks

Setting Sail: Into the Mystical Fjords

Ah, the allure of the fjords! From 00:00 to 09:00, we embarked on a leisurely journey through the mystical waters of the Sognefjord, rumoured to be one of Europe’s longest – although, according to Warren, that claim might just be a load of codswallop. With the morning sun casting a golden glow upon the rugged cliffs, we found ourselves slowly drifting towards our first port of call: Skjolden.

A Quaint Stopover: Skjolden

Upon disembarking at the quaint quayside, we set off on what was supposed to be a brisk 10-minute stroll into Skjolden. Of course, with our penchant for capturing every picturesque moment on camera, that 10 minutes easily stretched into a delightful 20-minute jaunt. Once in Skjolden, we discovered a charming array of small shops – perfect for indulging in a bit of local retail therapy.

Waterfalls and Brews: A Tale of Adventure

With Skjolden thoroughly explored, Warren and I decided to embark on a little adventure of our own. A three-mile trek to Vassbakken Kro beckoned, promising the allure of the fantastic Åsafossen waterfall nestled within a camping ground. Naturally, no adventure is complete without a pint or two of the local brew, even if it does cost a pretty penny at £10 a pop!

Onboard Shenanigans: Curfews and Dirty Dancing

As the sun began its descent, we made our way back to the Sky Princess, determined to make it aboard before the mysterious curfew – though whether it was set by the commodore or the ever-elusive Dawn remained a topic of spirited debate. Once safely back on deck, we regaled the girls with tales of our escapades, only to find them thoroughly engrossed in a screening of the timeless classic, Dirty Dancing.

Sailing Into Sunset: Beauty Beyond Words

With Skjolden fading into the distance, we found ourselves spellbound by the breathtaking beauty of the Norwegian landscape. Houses nestled along the shoreline, trees clinging to the mountainsides, and snow-capped peaks towering majestically above – it was a scene straight out of a fairytale. No picture or description could ever truly capture the sheer magnificence of the fjords.

Evening Delights: Motown and Ventriloquy

As evening descended upon the deck, we reconvened in the main plaza for a spot of entertainment. Dawn and I found ourselves swaying to the soulful sounds of Motown, while Michele and Warren ventured off in search of amusement elsewhere. Rumour had it, they stumbled upon a ventriloquist in the main theatre – though whether the performance was comedic genius or utter folly remained a matter of some contention.

In Retrospect: A Fire Bed and Fond Memories

As the day drew to a close, we found ourselves reminiscing about the day’s adventures, from scenic strolls to impromptu waterfall encounters. Each moment, etched into our memories like the flickering flames of a fire bed, warming our hearts with the promise of more adventures to come.
