As the Sky Princess gently docked, we found ourselves with a gloriously open schedule until the evening sail away. Fuelled by caffeine and the promise of adventure, we disembarked around 10:00, ready to soak in the sights and sounds of Alesund. Michele, the retail enthusiast of our merry band, wasted no time in sniffing out the local boutiques, much to the amusement of us all. But let’s be honest, who can resist a spot of shopping in a charming Norwegian town?

Scaling Heights: Aksla Viewpoint

With shopping bags in tow, we set our sights higher – quite literally – as we embarked on the ascent to Aksla Viewpoint. Perched majestically atop a mountain, this panoramic gem offered vistas worthy of a Bond film set. The climb was nothing short of an Olympic feat, but the promise of breathtaking views kept us going. And oh, the views were worth every drop of sweat!

A Bond-esque Affair

As we reached the summit, I half expected to stumble upon a clandestine lair, complete with a nefarious mastermind plotting world domination. Alas, it seems our imaginations had run wild with the allure of 007. Instead, we found ourselves immersed in the real-life drama of Alesund’s rugged beauty, with its patchwork of fjords and islands stretching out before us.

Brewery Bliss and Sail Away Shenanigans

After a morning of exploration, it was time to refuel. Back on the Sky Princess, we indulged in a leisurely lunch followed by a well-deserved siesta. But the adventure wasn’t over yet! As the afternoon sun began its descent, Warren and I seized the opportunity for one last jaunt ashore. Our destination? The local Molo Brewery, offering a tantalising flight of four beers overlooking the port. As we savoured each sip, Dawn and Michele kept a watchful eye on the ship, ensuring we wouldn’t miss the 17:30 deadline.

Showtime and Beyond

With the day drawing to a close, we wrapped up our Alesund adventure with a flourish. A spectacular show onboard the Sky Princess provided the perfect finale to a day filled with laughter, exploration, and perhaps one too many beers. As we retired early, anticipation bubbled for tomorrow’s excursion: a rendezvous with a glacier near Olden.
