Yet Another Day in the CAD Trenches
Ah, the life of a CAD Manager—where every day is a thrilling, action-packed adventure. Well, perhaps not quite, but it certainly keeps me on my toes! Today has been another one of those head-spinning, eye-watering days at the CAD coalface, as I like to call it. Sparks are flying, and it’s not just from my brain overworking.
The Never-Ending Planning Applications
Honestly, it feels like the Planning Applications just won’t stop coming! One after another, each more demanding than the last. I sometimes wonder if the local councils are secretly plotting to see how many they can throw at us before we crack. But alas, here I am, head barely above water, trying to power through.
Am I managing it? Just about, but I’ve definitely inhaled a few lungfuls of water in the process. The upside? At least it keeps things interesting. The downside? Well, drowning isn’t exactly on my to-do list.
Hope on the Horizon… Maybe?
There’s a small glimmer of hope for tomorrow—perhaps it’ll be a tad quieter. But who am I kidding? It’s unlikely. The minute you think you’ve got a breather, something always pops up. Still, I suppose it could be worse. At least I’ve got work to do, which beats sitting around twiddling my thumbs any day.
The Windows 7 Upgrade Drama
Now, onto the real fun—Windows 7 upgrades. Oh, the joy! Nothing like a bit of technical mayhem to spice up an already busy week. The big headache? AutoCAD. Yes, dear AutoCAD needs to be re-installed on every machine, and guess what? That means all the file paths are now as lost as I feel after a few pints down the pub.
Naturally, I tried to replicate my setup, but no, the universe wasn’t going to let me off that easy. Even as the so-called CAD Manager, I found myself scratching my head, staring at the screen, and possibly muttering a few choice words under my breath.
Calling in the Big Guns
At this point, I had to wave the white flag and call in reinforcements. CADLine, our trusty CAD suppliers, have stepped in to help, like the cavalry arriving just in time. I can only hope they can sort this out because, honestly, I’m about one Windows error message away from hurling the computer out of the window.
A Trip Down Memory Lane
Amidst the chaos, I did manage to catch up with a couple of old colleagues today—blast from the past from my days at Povall Worthington. Ah, the good old days! A time before CAD when the drawing board reigned supreme. No fiddly software updates, no lost file paths, just you, your trusty pencil, and a big ol’ sheet of paper.
We reminisced about the simpler times, when rulers were the only tools we needed and ‘cut and paste’ involved an actual pair of scissors and some glue. It’s mad how things have changed. Here’s hoping we can all catch up for a pint soon. I reckon we’ve earned it!
A Lazy Evening at Last
After mowing the lawn (I know, riveting stuff), I’ve had a nice, lazy evening with Michele. We settled in to tackle the ever-growing backlog of shows we’ve recorded on the Sky+ box. Honestly, it’s getting a bit out of hand. If the planner were a physical stack of tapes, it would’ve collapsed under its own weight by now.
Cooler Weather, Thank Goodness!
As predicted, the temperature has dropped a little today, which is a blessed relief. I’m not cut out for this blistering heat. Give me a nice, cool day over a scorcher anytime.
Final Thoughts
So, that’s today in a nutshell—CAD chaos, technical troubles, and a bit of nostalgia thrown in for good measure. It’s not all bad though. Tomorrow is another day, and who knows? Maybe I’ll finally get this AutoCAD mess sorted. Or maybe I’ll just unplug everything and move to the countryside. Either way, onwards and upwards!
