Day Nine – Tuscany 2015
Michele’s Birthday Extravaganza
Michele’s birthday today, and the rule was simple: whatever the birthday girl desired, she could have. Well, almost anything—sadly, the coveted Michael Kors handbag would have to wait a bit longer. A tad more saving required for that luxury!
First stop: the pool. But hold on, this wasn’t the usual routine. With the Bray family joining us, we now needed six sunbeds, not just three. Off I trotted to the tent section to nab another trio of towels. Honestly, it wasn’t really necessary, as Warren and Adam tagged along to witness my expert sunbed-reservation skills accumulated over the past week.
Mission accomplished; it was time to fetch croissants for the birthday girl. Disaster struck when I found sixty people ahead of me. Go back empty-handed and disappoint Michele? No chance. So, I joined the queue and waited a solid twenty minutes for four croissants. I’m a good lad, after all.
Morning Fun by the Pool
The morning was blissfully spent by the pool. Later, we hit the beach for a splash in the surf—well, Warren, Adam, and I did, anyway. The surf was far more boisterous than last week, with the lifeguard restricting everyone to waist-deep waters due to the rough conditions. We all got wiped out at some point, but it was a blast nonetheless. After lunch at the Bray’s, we returned to the pool.
Obediently, I kept out of the sun by wearing my t-shirt, which proved to be a wise choice as the day was hotter than usual.
Afternoon Reccy and Evening Festivities
Late in the afternoon, Warren and I scouted out the train station parking and ventured into San Vincenzo to prepare for Michele’s birthday dinner.
We caught the shuttle bus into San Vincenzo and dined at a marvellous restaurant on the marina’s edge. Josh surprised everyone by not ordering his usual margherita pizza. Instead, he bravely chose a seafood platter loaded with large prawns, sardines, and calamari, all of which he devoured with gusto.
Shuttle Bus Shenanigans
The return shuttle bus was a bit of a circus. We were the second family at the stop, but when two buses arrived, the local elderly population surged forward, completely disregarding the queue. Rude doesn’t even begin to describe it!
We headed to bed early since we had an early start the next day, with a 07:45 train to Rome awaiting us. Nighty-night!
