From Massages to Mojitos: A Day in the Life of Crete Escapades

Crete 2019 Chronicles: Day Three – Turning the Tide?

A Sun-Drenched Dilemma

Ah, another day dawns upon our Cretan escapade, or should I say, dawns with a touch of déjà vu? Day three officially, but let’s be honest, it feels more like day two given the rollercoaster ride we’ve had so far!

Michele, bless her, is a devout worshipper of the sun. So, naturally, I left the crucial task of selecting our sunbed sanctuary to her capable hands. Third row, right in front of the pool, she declared. I, on the other hand, was content with the prospect of a shady nook, buried in a good book. Now, bear in mind, I boast a hint of Italian lineage, which means I can handle a bit of sun without turning into a lobster. The choice of location is always tailored for my fair-haired, sun-sensitive companion from Wigan. As Michele soaked up the rays, I delved into a couple of chapters, the melodious tunes from her playlist serenading our leisurely morning.

Massage Mayhem

Today brought an unexpected treat – a 15-minute massage offer. Michele opted for a facial indulgence (personally, I reckon I could’ve replicated the effect with a damp cloth and some cucumber slices!), while I seized the opportunity to tend to the remnants of an old shoulder injury from 2017. Pleasantly soothing, albeit disappointingly short-lived. However, we’ve decided to splurge on a couple’s massage for my upcoming birthday. A mere 170 euros for 70 minutes of bliss. Although, I can’t help but wonder if it’ll resemble a ’70s swingers’ soirée where car keys are exchanged in a bowl. Let’s just hope I’m not paired with one of those scantily clad temptresses by the pool. Knowing my luck, though, it’s wishful thinking!

Culinary Delights and Cloudy Skies

Lunch proved to be a delight, with the culinary offerings earning nods of approval from both Michele and, more importantly, our discerning bank manager.

As the late afternoon unfolded, we found ourselves basking in the ambience of the bar, albeit under a somewhat overcast sky. Nevertheless, the clouds didn’t dampen our spirits as we engaged in lively banter with newfound acquaintances from Edinburgh. Though, it must be said, their penchant for puffing away on cigarettes left something to be desired. Ah well, to each their own, as they say.

A Fishy Affair and Dress Code Dilemmas

Dinner was a satisfying affair, highlighted by a sumptuous grilled fish, albeit marred slightly by the treacherous minefield of bones. The dress code dictates long pants and shirts for gentlemen, yet sightings of shorts abound. Only one chap was chastised for his choice of attire, sporting a vest, while others seemed to slip under the radar.

Musical Bonds and Mojito Dreams

Michele seems to have struck up quite the rapport with the barman, who conveniently plays her preferred tunes. Meanwhile, I’ve found solace in the comforting embrace of a well-crafted mojito.

And so, as the evening draws to a close, we eagerly anticipate the promise of relaxation that beckons on the horizon.
