Donuts from Boone

North Carolina 2022 – Day six

Today we were going to take a drive into the Appalachian Mountains and specifically to Elk Mountain Overlook. It’s about 110 miles from Julie’s and was expected to take just under 2 hours.

Off we went into the sunny warm day looking forward to an enjoyable day out exploring. However, we’d only been on the road for 10 minutes when the tyre pressure sensors on the car lit up getting me the nearside front was losing pressure. Pulling off the highway and into a service yard I topped up the tyre. Back on the road again.

About five miles from our destination the true t pressure lights were on again same tyre.

Arriving at the viewpoint at Elk Mountain Overlook we were blessed with fantastic views over the valleys and mountains in the distance. Be good to go exploring with Warren and Darren.

Now to get the tyre looked at so we headed towards the town of Boone and hopefully a garage. Found a little back street tyre garage but they were busy for 40-60 minutes so we found another one who said they could look. Left them with it while we grabbed some food. Upon returning I was greeted with “I’m sorry, but we can’t repair it you need a new tyre” What’s the cause of the air leak, it looks like it’s been curbed and has a bulge on the inner wall. Not caused by me I must add, and what will that cost be? $188. So, we had to pay. If we’d have been closer to Julie’s, we might have just topped the pressure up but that’s nearly 125 miles away.

Tyre fixed and now on our way into Boone. A pleasant busy and vibrant place with a busy high Street. Stopping off coffee and a doughnut to share just because the size is huge

On the journey back we again went past Elk Mountain Overlook to stop off at Cascade Falls which were just a short walk from the parking area and through a wooded pathway.

Now for the 2-hour drive back to Julie’s and a well-deserved beer.
