Not a particularly good night’s sleep last night as Michele couldn’t settle because Luna was making some noise as she didn’t want to be on her own in the puppy cage. So, I too was kept awake, the joys of being married! I also believe Julie too didn’t sleep very well. Don’t worry though Elle and Hayley slept through it all!
Weather was a lot brighter and dryer today albeit there had been a slight frost. As the sun started to shine the wet trainers from yesterday were left at the front of the house to speed up the drying process.
Following breakfast, we headed out to explore Greensboro. Upon arriving we went looking for car parking. Garage parking or On-Street parking, anything will do. We found some street parking and tried desperately to make payment, but the machine wouldn’t take card or cash. Just up the road was a parking enforcement officer who explained it was free parking as the meters were broken. Winner winner chicken dinner.
Walking through Greensboro was nice in the sun, but you had to watch out for the chilly wind that meant we needed our fleeces on. Before lunch most of the shops were shut and there were not a lot of people about however, we did find a coffee shop called ‘Cheesecakes by Alex‘ which was a welcomed pitstop. White chocolate for Michele and key lime for me.
Walking round Greensboro, the architecture is interesting and showcases a varied style. We came across the FW Woolworth store on South Elm Street, it is famous for a 1960’s sit-in by students protesting about segregation. Further along through the streets we came across ‘the ‘The Five Hearths‘ outside of the Greensboro Municipal Office Buildings. ‘The Five Hearths’ are protective bollards sculptures aimed at the brutalist architecture. Also, within the city there are street sculptures celebrating Greensboro’s link with the manufacturing of the clothing garment called Jeans. We came across ‘Melting Pot Mosaic’ which was a colourful pair of Jeans.
The sun was doing its best to warm the streets, but the chilly wind was still biting. We went in search of retail therapy for Michele. Macy’s it was but on the retail park at the Friendly Center Rd, Greensboro, NC. So, Michele was in her element. However not too many things can be bought as we don’t have space in the suitcases.
We managed to get back to Julie’s in time for me to see the last 25 mins of Liverpool v United. But I wish we’d not bothered as United got beat 4-0. They have a massive task to turn this club around.
