Beach Lounging 101: Harder Than It Looks

Mexico Day Two: The Sun, The Sea, and a Splash of Booze—Sounds Easy, Right?

The Early Bird Catches the… Sunburn?

Ah, Mexico! The land of vibrant colours, spicy food, and endless sunshine. You’d think spending a day lounging on the beach, sipping cocktails, and indulging in a good book would be the epitome of relaxation, wouldn’t you? Well, let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it sounds. By the end of today, I’m absolutely knackered!

Our day started bright and early, probably a bit too early considering we’re on holiday. But, after a restful night’s sleep, we were up and ready to take on day two with a spring in our step. Or at least, that was the plan.

The Concierge Chronicles: Booking the Week’s Feasts

First things first, we had a date with the block concierge. The mission? Secure our dining reservations for the week. You’d be surprised how much strategy goes into planning your meals when you’re on an all-inclusive holiday. After all, you don’t want to miss out on the best restaurants! We quickly got that sorted, securing ourselves some promising dinner spots, and with that out of the way, it was time for breakfast.

Now, there’s something quite magical about a freshly made omelette on holiday. Maybe it’s the fact that someone else is making it for you, or maybe it’s just that everything tastes better when you’re not the one doing the cooking. Either way, we both tucked into our omelettes with glee, fuelling up for what we thought would be a leisurely day ahead.

TUI Welcome Meeting: The Formalities of Fun

Next up, we had the TUI welcome meeting. If you’ve ever been on a package holiday, you’ll know this is a bit of a rite of passage. They give you the lowdown on all the do’s and don’ts, try to sell you some excursions, and generally make sure you’re not going to get yourself into too much trouble. We smiled, nodded, and took the brochures, but we had our eyes firmly set on one thing—hitting the beach.

A Day at the Beach: Sun, Sand, and… Exhaustion?

With the formalities out of the way, it was time to do what we’d come here for: absolutely nothing. We made a beeline for the beach, eager to claim our spot under the dazzlingly blue Mexican sky. Let me paint you a picture: the sand was soft, the waves gently lapping, and the sun was shining—paradise, right?

Michele, ever the adventurer, even ventured into the sea. Now, you’d think the water in Mexico would be as warm and inviting as a bath, especially since it’s the same sea as in Jamaica, but apparently, it had a bit of a chill to it. Still, that didn’t stop her from taking the plunge while I kept an eye on our loungers, making sure they didn’t float away.

The drinks service was nothing short of impeccable. Our lovely drinks lady Karen ensured that we were never without a cold beer or a refreshing cocktail in hand. The constant flow of alcohol was both a blessing and a curse—staying hydrated with margaritas is harder work than you’d think!

Dinner Drama: The Tripe Trial

As the sun began to set, we reluctantly dragged ourselves away from the beach and prepared for the evening’s entertainment: dinner. Tonight’s cuisine of choice was Mexican, and I was feeling adventurous. So, when I spotted a dish that I’d never tried before, I thought, “Why not?” Well, that’s how I ended up with a plate of what I believe was tripe. I say “believe” because I’m still not entirely sure, but one bite was enough to know that it wasn’t for me. Let’s just say I’ll be sticking to the safer options from now on.

Michele, being much wiser than me, chose dishes that were both delicious and devoid of any mysterious ingredients. Beans seemed to be a recurring theme on the menu, which is fine by me—who doesn’t love a good refried bean?

The End of a Long Day: Bedtime Decisions

By the time we finished dinner, we were ready to collapse. But before drifting off, there was one last decision to be made: tomorrow’s agenda. Should we repeat today’s beachside bliss, or should we mix it up and spend some time by the pool? Decisions, decisions…

So, there you have it—day two in Mexico. A day that seemed so simple on paper turned out to be quite the challenge. But hey, if I have to suffer in the sunshine with a cocktail in hand, I suppose there are worse fates. Here’s to whatever tomorrow brings!
