Mojitos, Coatis, and the Hunt for Red October

Mexico, Day Three: Poolside Shenanigans and the Hunt for Red October

Time for Some Tom Clancy

After yet another peaceful night’s sleep, we were gently nudged awake by the warm Mexican sun creeping through the curtains. The promise of another glorious day was enough to kickstart us into action.

With breakfast sorted and bellies full, we decided it was time to take a dip in the pool. Now, I must say, the pool was a tad more lively than the beach, which seemed to have attracted all the kids and their endless energy. But not to worry—we found a sunny spot, laid out our towels, and got ready to soak up some rays. Michele was in her own world, headphones in, music playing, while I was deep into the pages of Tom Clancy’s Hunt for Red October. It’s been gripping so far, and I was more than happy to spend the day with a good book in hand.

Mojitos and Pina Coladas: Poolside Essentials

Today’s drinks of choice were as refreshing as ever. I indulged in a few mojitos, each one just as minty and delicious as the last. Michele, on the other hand, was all about the Pina Coladas, with each sip tasting like a mini tropical holiday.

We have dinner plans tonight at the Brazilian à la carte restaurant at 21:00. Now, that’s a touch on the late side for Michele, who usually prefers to eat a bit earlier. So, to keep the hunger pangs at bay, we opted for a light lunch—nothing fancy, just some potatoes and chicken, all washed down with a nice cold beer. The perfect pre-dinner snack, if you ask me!

The Coatis and the Clouds

The afternoon rolled around, and with it, a few clouds started to gather. But don’t worry, the temperature barely noticed, and it stayed warm enough for us to keep lounging by the pool.

During a quick Skype call, I wished our nephew Max a happy 10th birthday. I can’t believe how fast he’s growing up! After our chat, I returned to find Michele being entertained by a group of unexpected visitors—a band of Coatis! Yes, you read that right. These cheeky little creatures were on the prowl, scavenging for food around the pool. There must have been about 15 of them, all ages, just wandering between the sunbeds, completely unfazed by the humans lazing around. It was like a scene out of a wildlife documentary!

Beach Lovers at Heart

As the day wound down, we came to a decision. While the pool has its charms—mojitos, for one!—we realised that we’re definitely more beach people. There’s something about the sand between your toes and the sound of the waves that you just can’t beat.

But enough of that, it’s almost time for dinner. So, until tomorrow, I’ll leave you with this: adios from sunny Mexico!
