Jamaica Day 7 – Our Last Hurrah ?
Breakfast and Goodbyes
Today marked the last full day of our splendid Jamaican escapade, and it was also the day my dear cousin Julie had to pack her bags and bid us farewell. Our morning began early, with breakfast at 08:15 since Julie’s ride to the airport was set for 09:10.
Bev and I indulged in our usual morning fare of poached and boiled eggs on bagels, while Michele and David decided to skip their regular fresh omelette. Instead, we all gathered around, sharing a laugh about the previous night’s dinner at the so-called Italian restaurant. Let’s just say, the food was nice, but Italian it was not. The pièce de résistance, or rather the pièce de ridicule, was the chicken Parmesan that five out of six of us ordered. What arrived at our table looked more like it came from a certain Colonel’s secret recipe rather than a Tuscan kitchen!
The bewildered looks on our faces must have been priceless. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the meal, even if it was more KFC than authentic Italian cuisine.
With our bellies full and our spirits high, we said our goodbyes to Julie. We all agreed that we’d had a fantastic time together, filled with laughter and memorable moments.
A Cloudy Beach Day
After Julie left, we headed to the beach to soak up the sun, despite the sky being a bit overcast. As the day progressed, the weather took a turn for the worse, but David and I managed a swim in the sea while it rained. Swimming in the rain was a unique experience, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Post-swim, we lunched and then indulged in a bit of shopping. The afternoon was spent playing cards and sipping drinks at the bar overlooking the pool. We were treated to another one of those dramatic Jamaican downpours, but it didn’t dampen our spirits. In fact, it added to the fun and laughter.
Battling the Cold
Poor Bev has now surpassed me with her cold symptoms, but we’ve both been quite the troopers, not uttering a single complaint about our sniffles and coughs.
Dinner at The Grill
Tonight, we’re dining at The Grill, our favourite restaurant, with a reservation for 20:30. The resort has seen an influx of new guests today, making it a bit livelier. It should make for an entertaining evening.
Heading Home
Tomorrow, we head back home. Our pickup is scheduled for 12:30 Jamaican time (18:30 UK time). Reflecting on the past week, we’ve all had a truly relaxing and enjoyable time. I’ll be sure to summarize our adventures and add some photos once I’m back home.
Sounds like you had a good family holiday albeit interrupted by typical for this time of year, tropical rain showers. Hope your trip back is good and you & Bev don’t develop full on colds.
Nick we have had an absolute blast, there was Michele (my wife), my mate David & his wife (Beverley) & my cousin (Julie) flew in from Chicago for 5 days. Between the 5 of us we have 9 children & it was great not to have any othem with us albeit that we have missed them dearly.
Journey home was OK, didn’t sleep though.
Cold still taking residence up in my head.
