Becoming a Grandpa for the First Time
Well, my dear readers, this week has been monumental. My daughter and her boyfriend have bestowed upon me the illustrious title of Grandpa for the very first time.
The Arrival of Harry
Little Harry made his grand entrance into the world on 4th September, after putting his mum through an impressive 44-hour labour. Naturally, we were all itching to meet him, but we had to hold our horses until Wednesday. Sam was understandably too knackered on Tuesday to entertain visitors. When we finally got to meet the little chap, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride – I’m officially a proud Grandpa.
Settling In at Home
Sam and Harry were given the all-clear to head home after a couple of days in the hospital. It seems Harry’s been quite the social butterfly since then, with a steady stream of visitors. The hospital’s strict visiting hours didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits, it seems. This weekend, we managed another visit and brought along two of Harry’s uncles to meet him.
Sleepyhead Harry
The photo I’ve got of Harry is a rare one where he’s actually awake. The little lad seems to be perfecting the art of napping, unbothered by the world around him. They say he takes after his Grandpa in that respect – can’t say I’m surprised!
College Days and Future Chefs
In other news, my middle son has embarked on his college journey this week. He’s taken up a course in professional cookery. Here’s to a future filled with delectable dishes from our budding chef, Lewis!
The Elusive Youngest
I haven’t seen much of my youngest this weekend. He’s been out and about with his mates, no doubt up to typical teenage shenanigans. It’s good to see him enjoying himself, though.
A Quick Chat with the Eldest
My eldest has been buried in work all weekend, so we only managed a brief chat over the phone. It’s a busy time for him, but it’s always good to catch up, even if just for a moment.
Approaching the Big 5-0
Time waits for no man, and I find myself on the cusp of turning 50. Only a few weeks to go! I’ve already planned my first celebratory tipple – a mini West Pennine Ale Trail with a few mates. Michele’s already given me a heads-up to behave myself, as my parents and daughter might pop by later that Saturday. I suppose I should be on my best behaviour, especially since Michele and I will be jetting off to Jamaica for my actual birthday.
A Weekend Without Football
This weekend was a bit quiet on the football front due to international games. However, the curtain has closed on the Paralympic Games. Although we couldn’t see any of the events live in London the other week, I thoroughly enjoyed watching them on the telly.
A Grand Finale
All in all, it’s been a week to remember. Becoming a grandpa for the first time is an experience I’ll cherish forever. I’m incredibly grateful to Sam and Matt for bringing little Harry into our lives. Thanks, you two – you’ve made me the happiest Grandpa around. x
It’s ok 🙂 glad you enjoy your role as a grandpa 🙂
You best be home and able to walk in a straight line on the 22nd as we want to see you for your birthday and Harry will give you Birthdat cuddles whilst awake 🙂

I’ll make sure you can walk the wobbly line when we have them drinks
Glad to have you as my wingman any day Drew, just like in London 🙂
