Father’s Day 2013
Morning Misadventures
Ah, Father’s Day 2013, where dreams of breakfast in bed once again slipped away. Michele, bless her, did whip up a cracking bacon butty, which was the highlight of my morning. Meanwhile, the younger two either lounged in front of the TV or were still snug in their beds, blissfully unaware of the day’s antics awaiting us.
Dad’s Taxi Service
Just like the previous year, my services as Dad’s taxi were promptly requested. The youngest had misplaced his iGO card on the bus yesterday, and we needed to retrieve it from Bryn where the bus company parks their buses overnight. Off we went, but alas, the card was nowhere to be found. We were advised to call back the next day. Kids, eh?
Family Tea Time
The afternoon was a family affair, with all four of my kids, my parents, and Michele’s parents gathering at ours for tea. I took to the kitchen, whipping up a shoulder of pork using a recipe I found on Channel 4 for BBQ brisket. It was a roaring success, vanishing almost as soon as it hit the table. Even little Harry, my grandson, managed to have a nibble.
Gifts and Gratitude
The kids spoilt me with cash and chocolates. The cash will come in handy as I’m in dire need of new Merrill sandals. Always a practical man, me.
The Missing Blog Post Explained
I should mention why there was no blog post last week. Josh and I were off on a Dad’s and Lad’s walk in Dove Dale, Peak District, which left me no time to jot down my usual musings.
Dad’s and Lad’s Adventure
A group of dads and our sons trekked about 11.5 miles through the stunning Peak District. We started and ended our journey at Dove Dale, tackling Thorpe Cloud along the way. Our lunch spot was The Coach and Horses in Fenny Bentley, and we couldn’t resist an ice cream break in Tissington. A Lancaster bomber flew low overhead during lunch, but it disappeared into the trees before I could snap a photo. Later, we saw a Vulcan bomber in the distance, but it was too far away for a decent shot. Such is life!

Work Woes
The work week that followed was a bit of a nightmare, thanks to issues with remote access to the CAD software. The IT wizards seem to have conjured up a solution, which should hopefully keep my phone from ringing off the hook. I’ve got a WebEx meeting to lead this Tuesday with IT managers from EC Harris (UK, Asia, and Middle East) and the IT team from ARCADIS in Holland. CAD is the hot topic, and fingers crossed, the technology will be on my side!
