Day two – A Relaxing Day in San Diego
Morning Chill and a Tech Emergency
After the frantic 24-hour dash across the Atlantic, both of us were awake by 06:30 and ready for a relaxed day. We took our time, lounging around until finally getting up and showered by 08:00. As we debated what to do next, I received a panicked WhatsApp message from a colleague staying 0.5 miles away at Hotel Indigo. His laptop wouldn’t charge, and he needed help. I grabbed my power lead, though I wasn’t optimistic, and met him in the hotel lobby. Fortunately, the issue was quickly resolved—it turned out to be a faulty power socket.
Dennis, appreciative of the help, treated us to a Starbucks coffee as a thank-you for fixing the issue.
Exploring the Gaslamp Quarter
After the tech emergency, we strolled through the Gaslamp Quarter, a historic area filled with charm. There was a lively pop-up market, where we grabbed some delicious croissants from a local bakery. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the morning was off to a great start.
San Diego Bay and Convention Centre Walk
Next, we headed towards the San Diego Convention Centre, a massive structure that often hosts large events. From there, we made our way over to the harbour, enjoying stunning views of the San Diego Bay. The shoreline offered plenty of people-watching opportunities as we admired the boats drifting by.
Meeting New People and Craft Beer
We struck up a conversation with a friendly American who worked at Autodesk, and before we knew it, the day had flown by. A quick stop at Mike Hess Brewery for some craft beers further enhanced the laid-back vibe of the day.
Evening Relaxation and Dinner
By early evening, we returned to the hotel to unwind before heading out for dinner. We enjoyed a fantastic meal at Karl Strauss Brewery, which is well-known for its excellent beer selection and laid-back atmosphere. The evening was the perfect way to cap off a relaxing day. After dinner, it was time to head back to the hotel and wind down before another early start.
