Day Two in Tuscany 2015: Park Albatros Adventure
A Very Good Morning
Oh, Tuscany, you cheeky devil! Day two began with a proper introduction to the Tuscan sun at Park Albatros. Michele had a bit of a moan, claiming the pigeons woke her up. How on earth she heard them all the way from where we were, I’ve no idea. Perhaps it was my snoring? Anyway, she’s a trooper.
The Hunt for the Supermarket
After managing to get Joshua up at a civilised hour, we set off on the grand quest for a supermarket. Our destination: Venturina, about 15 minutes’ drive away. We struck gold with a Co-op, a charming haven of local produce. It felt like a scene from a Tuscan movie, with little English spoken and a creative challenge to figure out which fruit and veg to pick. The labels were all in Italian, which added a touch of adventure to our shopping spree. The best part? The Birra was a bargain! Our grand total for the Tuesday shop came to €160 (£117). Not too shabby, if you ask me.
Lunchtime Feast
Back at the caravan, we unloaded our bounty and set up for a week of gastronomic delights. Lunch was a splendid affair. I indulged in a feast of bread, a delightful selection of cured meats, olives, and salad. Michele went for a classic choice with bread, ham, and some spreading cheese. And Joshua? He took a creative turn with cereal and watermelon. The lad knows how to mix things up!
Afternoon Escapades
The Beach Adventure
The afternoon saw us venturing to the beach, just a brisk 15-minute walk away. The sand was scorching hot, nearly singeing our bare feet. The beach was teeming with families, all sharing our goal: soak up the sun and have a blast. The sand was a bit coarse, quite different from the fine sands of Ca’ Savio on the Venetian coastline. The waves were mighty, and we all took turns getting knocked over. Yes, every single one of us. Michele made a grand splash, literally, when a sneaky wave knocked her flat on her bum! Picture her with hair like the ‘Hair Bear Bunch’—hilarious, and she took it in good spirits, though I might have laughed just a tad more than she did.
Teen Club Misadventure
Joshua decided to check out the teenager’s club. Imagine his surprise when he found it merged with the 8-11-year-olds group. Not a single teenager in sight, poor lad. He retreated swiftly, a bit of a shame after making the effort, but we live and learn.
Evening Shenanigans
BBQ and Card Games
With the rain pouring down, our BBQ dreams were put on hold. But we didn’t let that dampen our spirits. We huddled up for an evening of card games, sipping on Moretti, and grooving to Michele’s 80’s music selection. As I type, we’re jamming to Haircut 100’s ‘Love Plus One’. The rain might have tried to play spoilsport, but we turned it into a cosy, fun-filled evening.
Looking Ahead
After a fun-packed Day Two, we’re gearing up for a cooler day tomorrow, with temperatures forecasted to be a pleasant 25 degrees. Our plan? A day trip to Pisa and then Lucca. Tuscan adventures, here we come!
