Crete Day Six – Soaking Up the Sun and Laughs
Ah, another day in sunny Crete, and guess what? It was, well, sunny and windy, but pleasantly warm. What more could you ask for? It was just the kind of weather that keeps you glued to your sunbed, without turning you into a roasted tomato.
Breakfast for One
So, picture this: it’s breakfast time, but it’s a solo affair today. Why? Well, someone (no names mentioned… okay, it’s Michele) decided that the darkness was far too inviting to leave behind just yet. Before you jump to conclusions – no, this is not the result of indulging in too much Bailey’s the night before. I repeat, definitely not Bailey’s. Just your standard case of needing a bit more shut-eye, thank you very much!
Meanwhile, I managed to make the most of the early morning with a delicious little breakfast – two boiled eggs on toast and a pot of steaming coffee to fuel the day. I did attempt a croissant heist for Michele (I’m thoughtful like that), but alas, no croissants to be found today. Not to worry, though – a humble bread bun would have to do. Upon returning to the room, I was pleased to see some signs of life from my sleepy companion. Despite feeling a bit “URRGHH,” we rallied together and made our way to the beach.
A Day at the Beach
The wind wasn’t quite as intense as the previous day, but the Aegean Sea? Still quite feisty. The red flag was flying, meaning no swimming for the brave souls who might be tempted by the crashing waves. The lifeguard, doing his best Baywatch impression, was up and down the beach, whistle in hand, reminding folks to stay closer to shore. I don’t know about you, but the waves looked pretty exciting from where I was standing – even just wading in up to my knees, I could feel the sea’s power pushing against me.
As for the rest of the day? Absolute relaxation mode. We snagged some sunbeds and settled in for a proper chill. I lost myself in my book, while Michele got lost in her music. Isn’t that what holidays are for? Just blissfully switching off and soaking it all in.
Lunch Time: Spaghetti & Sunshine
By midday, it was time to refuel, and what better way to do that than with a plate of spaghetti bolognaise? It was the perfect lunch, washed down with a well-deserved beer – just the thing to cool off under the scorching sun. After all, you’ve got to stay hydrated, right?
Post-lunch, I managed to squeeze in a quick call with Drew, who, I might add, was up bright and early in Mexico to catch the sunrise. Overachiever, much? He was enjoying breakfast by the time we spoke, and for those of you wondering, yes, he’s absolutely fine. He’s settled into his hotel nicely and is planning on doing what we’re doing here – chilling out for the next 11 days. Sounds like a plan, doesn’t it?
The Afternoon: More Sun, More Relaxing
The afternoon was a repeat of the morning’s relaxation routine. You know how it goes: feet up, book in hand, and the gentle sound of waves as background music. Michele and I even had a little texting session with Josh, who, unsurprisingly, wasn’t up for a phone call. He’s happy enough in his own world, relaxing like the pro that he is. No wild parties for him last night, either – apparently, he couldn’t be bothered. Shocking, I know!
A Minor Footballing Tragedy
Now, I must address the elephant in the room. United got beat at West Ham. Again. What can I say? It’s a sore spot, but let’s not dwell on that too long. After all, we’re on holiday, and nothing should spoil the vibe, right?
Prepping for the Evening
As the day draws to a close, it’s time to freshen up and get ready for another delightful evening meal. I’ll spare you the details of my outfit choice (just know, it’s holiday chic). Tomorrow, we’ll do it all over again – more sunshine, more food, and more relaxation. Stay tuned for the next instalment of our Crete adventure!
