North Carolina Chronicles: Day Ten Unveiled
Rise and Shine, or Not?
Waking up in the heart of North Carolina, I was greeted by an empty bed, leaving me pondering the mysterious disappearance of Michele. Alas, my quest for the missing bed companion led me to the den, where Michele was blissfully asleep on the sofa. It turns out my symphony of snores, reminiscent of a hog’s melody, had driven her to seek refuge elsewhere. Note to self: practice quieter sleeping habits or risk losing bedfellows.
Breakfast Odyssey: Cracker Barrel Edition
By 10:00, fully dressed and ready for action, we embarked on a culinary adventure at the esteemed Cracker Barrel. Elle took the wheel, and I, in a questionable move, hopped into the rear seat with Michele, while Julie sat upfront with Elle. The ensuing car ride resembled a roller coaster more than a scenic drive, making me regret my decision. Motion sickness aside, we arrived at our destination.
Now, let’s talk breakfast. I opted for the Old Timers Breakfast, a plate brimming with 2 eggs, hash browns casserole, bacon, biscuits, grits, and gravy. A quintessential American breakfast, they say. While the eggs and bacon played their part well, the grits resembled runny porridge, and the gravy—more like a mysterious, whitish gloop with peculiar dark specks. It may not have lived up to the glory of a good old English fry-up, but the coffee managed to salvage the morning.
Basking in the Lazy Afternoon Sun
Post-breakfast, we indulged in a leisurely afternoon, lounging in the yard as the temperature soared to a toasty 86°F (29°C) at 16:30. Picture this: three girls absorbed in the Nashville drama on TV while I, the lone wanderer, strolled back from a refreshing walk with Luna. The tranquility of the moment was palpable, a perfect snapshot of a Southern afternoon.
As the clock ticked on, 19:15 rolled around, and the temperature gracefully settled at a comfortable 76°F (24°C). The warm, golden hues of the sunset painted the landscape, bringing a serene conclusion to a lazy day in North Carolina.
TV Dramas and Dog Walks
With the sun beginning its descent, the trio resumed their Nashville binge-watching session, leaving me to recount the adventures of Luna’s evening walk. A perfect balance of screen time and canine companionship, our evening unfolded in the charming backdrop of a North Carolina twilight.
