Covid Holidays Day Four – Shopping and lunch out

Early morning

Shopping and lunch out were the themes for today. Those of you that know Michele know she enjoys a good shop. But not today, we will see.

We were up and out early doors as Michele needed to be at the Spire Hospital in Warrington for 08:30. As we started the car & logged the Satnav to the address it told us there was a delay and the journey was due to take about 45 minutes. Oh, dear it was already 07:50. The delay being caused by having to swap Lewis’s car over to get ours out. So off we set in the direction of the M6. Lucky for us we were not delayed too much and managed to even make some time up on the M6 then the M56. We arrived with three minutes to spare. While Michele wandered off into see the consultant I sat in the car and called my brother Rob for a quick catch-up.

Wow that was quick as Michele was in and out in just a little over ten minutes. All happy and discharged from the hospital.

Late morning

Now for Shopping and lunch out!

First stop was Ikea but that doesn’t open until 10:00 and we have a 15-minute drive to it from the Spire Hospital. far too early but too short a time to go home then back to Ikea. So, we headed towards Ikea but parked up in a pub car park rather than wait at Ikea. Wrong idea. When we arrived at Ikea at 09:50 the car park was already busy and a queue was forming that looked far longer than any of the queues we had experienced early in to the Covid pandemic at our local Tesco store. Of course, this was all my fault which Michele politely told me so. But we joined it all the same. It didn’t take as long as we expected and only lost 15 minutes of our lives queuing.

Once in Ikea it wasn’t too bad walking round the store, and everyone appeared to be adhering to the latest Covid restrictions. We were primarily looking for a new work desk for me. Since working from home I have put up with a pop-up desk. However now with no clear timescales of returning to work I needed something more substantial. Desk found along with several other things that Michele decided we needed for home. So, it was off to face another queue this time to pay. Again, Ikea appeared to have it all flowing well and we didn’t wait long for the check-out.

Afternoon

Michele had contacted her cousin Jan and her husband Glen to see if they fancied meeting us for lunch. Yes, sure was the reply and Michele made a reservation at Miller and Carter which is steak restaurant not too far from Ikea. We sat and chatted the afternoon away with them. The surprise being it was nearly 16:00 when we said our goodbyes.

Arriving home after our Shopping and lunch out day, we created space for my new desk in the spare bedroom. All three cats decided to inspect the changes. Not often they get the chance to get in this room though. They approved as Issy is now sat on the sofa bed next to me asleep while I type this blog post up.
