Covid Holidays Day Eleven – A walk at Hebden Bridge

A walk at Hebden Bridge today as the weather was better than yesterday. The sun was up & the rain had gone.

Morning

Not up too early today but not a lazy day in bed.

We set off down the M61 and across the M60 towards Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire. The traffic was not too bad though.

Michele had had a suggestion from one of her colleagues for a walk at Hebden Bridge, or just outside following the Hebden Beck.

The walk takes you from the National Trust car park at Midgehole and along the side of the Hebden Beck up towards Gibson Mill. You can either follow the river walk or along the main track. We selected the river path which meandered along the Hebden Beck. There were several weirs in the water along the route. There were also a few crossing points mad from stones/rocks and felled tree trunks. Michele did not take the chance to cross the river for fear of slipping into the water. I did cross though without slipping. The water looked quite dirty in places and had a distinctive brown colour to it.

Just under two miles into the walk you come across Gibson Mill. This is a Victorian Mill and weaving shed turned in to a cafe an exhibition room. The cafe was open, and we stopped for lunch.

After lunch we continued the walk past the Mill pond at the rear of the Mill and up the track into the woodland. Looking at the Mill pond it is easy to see where the phrase ‘As calm as a Mill pond’ comes from. The reflection of the Mill in the pond was stunning. Look at the photographs below to check it out. As you follow the track through the woodland you come across some crags (rocky outcrops) which I climbed, again Michele elected not to climb them. She is still getting over the shock of the climbs she did in Grizedale on Tuesday.

The weather changed slightly with a light shower, so we headed back past Gibson Mill to the car.

Afternoon

After the walk we drove into Hebden Bridge for a walk. Michele has not been to Hebden Bridge before and I’m not too sure if I have ever been there either. Dad will have to update me on this.

Hebden Bridge is quite a compact town and is easy to navigate your way around. We wandered between the shops and cafes; the market was even on.

We stopped for a coffee stop at one of the cafes and sat outside overlooking a lady playing a trumpet.

Then it was the short drive over the hilltops towards the motorway and home for our evening meal.
