Friends Reunited After 45 Years
The Power of Social Media
Well, by the power of social media, I have today been reunited with the young lady I grew up next to at my parents’ first home on Old Heyes Road, Timperley. Imagine that! After 45 long years, a simple Facebook post has brought us back together.
It all started by chance. Both of us had commented on a Facebook post where two other friends from opposite ends of my life were chatting to each other! Kate asked if Mark knew the two lads she grew up living next to. Those two lads were my brother Rob and me. I responded, and hey presto, we were reunited after nearly half a century!
From Timperley to New Beginnings
Not only was it by chance that social media reunited us, but it’s quite strange too, considering both of us now live miles away from where we grew up. Kate is living in Sweden, while I’m in Wigan. Life certainly has a funny way of working out, doesn’t it?
Along with this delightful reunion, I’ve also set up a new Facebook group this week called “Memories of Timperley”. Timperley is a suburban village within the Altrincham area, in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. It’s where I grew up as a kid with my family, full of fond memories and familiar faces.
Memories of Timperley
The group is there for all residents, past and present, to share their stories, photographs, and recollections of life in the small principality of Timperley. All are welcome, and hopefully, others out there can get reunited too. It’s a bit like a virtual time machine, bringing us all back to those good old days.
If you’re reading my blog and know anyone with roots in Timperley, by all means, direct them over to the group on Facebook. The more, the merrier!
Summer Holiday Plans
Now, moving on from the joys of reunions, Michele and I have also taken a step towards booking our summer holiday this year. We’ve always wanted to go to Tuscany in Italy and have now decided to make it happen. We’d previously enjoyed our visits to Italy, with the last one being seven years ago when we stayed on the shore of Lake Garda.
We’d chatted with our friends (family really) Warren and Dawn about going on holiday previously, but we’d never actually managed to get anything organised. This time, however, it looks like it’s on the cards for August 2015. More details on this trip will follow as I update them, so check back soon to find out more. We’re looking at staying at Park Albatros, Tuscany – it’s going to be amazing!
Reflecting on Life’s Surprises
Isn’t it fascinating how life works? One minute you’re reminiscing about childhood friends, and the next, you’re planning a trip to a beautiful place like Tuscany. It’s these little surprises that make life so charming. Reconnecting with old friends and making new memories – that’s what it’s all about.
So, here’s to the power of social media for making the world a smaller place, to old friends and new adventures, and to the wonderful memories we create along the way. Cheers!
Hi, bit of a long shot, but did anyone know a girl named Pamela who lived with her mum at 4a Old Heyes road?
She was there up to about 1978
Sorry Jan I had left the road by then. Look on Facebook for a group called Memories of Timperley and ask the question there.
