Us two waiting for the flight home from Chicago

Our Chicago Farewell and Dublin Delay

Chicago 2014 – Day Eighteen (Almost Home)

The Never-Ending Journey Home

Well, here we are, almost home. Or at least we would be if we hadn’t been held captive on the tarmac at Chicago for what felt like a lifetime! A solid 50 minutes of just sitting there, queuing to get airborne. Now, instead of being comfortably nestled at home, we’re stranded at Dublin Airport. We missed our connection to Manchester, which was supposed to take off at 06:30. Annoyingly, we landed with a tantalising 30 minutes to spare, but they wouldn’t let us board because our cases were still on the flight from Chicago! Can you believe it?

Breakfast on the House

In a bid to make up for our misfortune, they’ve popped us onto the 10:05 flight and handed over some vouchers for breakfast. So, at least Lewis can go all out and fill his boots with some free food. Small mercies, eh? Until then, it’s a waiting game. Not exactly how we planned to spend our morning, but what can you do?

Farewells and Fond Memories

Last night was all about goodbyes. We said our farewells to Julie on Monday night since she had work on Tuesday and was gone before we even woke up. Chris also got his goodbye, though he’s quite the night owl like Lewis, so it was more of a ‘see you later.’ As for Elle, Michele managed to snag a hug from her, which is quite the achievement considering Elle isn’t exactly known for being a ‘huggy’ type.

Gratitude and Missing Friends

A massive thank you to Julie, Chris, and Elle for putting up with us for two and a half weeks. You guys were absolute stars, and we’re already missing you loads. It’s been a fantastic trip filled with memories we’ll cherish, even if our journey home has hit a few bumps.
