Well that’s California done now until Thursday 22nd September as we’re off to Kauai, Maui and O’ahu tomorrow.
We awoke after a peaceful nights sleep at our Airbnb in Pismo Beach and packed the car for the drive towards LA. First stop was two hours drive (109 miles) away at Ventura. I’d agreed to meet up with ‘Ace’ (aka my boss Francois) for a coffee and a bite to eat. Some slight delay in the drive due to the traffic through the mountains but we were first at the Frontside Cafe (an Australian themed cafe bar). Francois appeared within 5 minutes. We’d driven and he’d cycled. However when we arrived it was raining I did remind Francois that it was just like Manchester.
We spent just over an hour with him before bidding him a goodbye. His suggestion was to drive highway 1 down towards Malibu and Venice Beach in LA with plenty of places to stop off to view the beaches and the Pacific Ocean. So off we went, 60 miles and about 80 minutes if the traffic was kind.
30 minutes down the coast we pulled off highway 1 and into a parking area at Mugu Point. I went for a paddle in the Pacific Ocean while Michele stood and watched from the shore. The water was refreshing and the surf was up. See the picture attached to this post. Albeit that it was cloudy and overcast it was still warm at about 27°. We spent an hour here before getting back in the car and continuing the drive down highway 1.
As we got closer to Malibu the traffic was heavier and the number of tourist shops/bars/restaurants increased. It also started to lose its appeal and didn’t look like it does on the TV. The same goes for Venice Beach too. Not my preference but at least we’ve been.
Dropped the car off at LAX airport 1 hour earlier and went to check-in at the Hilton LAX. Grabbed some food and a beer now sat in the room watching TV before our alarm goes off at 06:00 so we can get checked in for our flights to Kauai at 08:55.
