The morning started off early at 05:00hrs ready for our pickup transfer to the airport at 05:45. So no rest for the wicked. We were last to be collected and dropped at the Kahului airport by 06:20. Security wasn’t as good as the Kauai airport but still quicker than Manchester airport.. It took us 15 minutes to clear. Which meant we had about two and a half hours in the airport lounge.
The flight wasn’t full and only took about 22 minutes between Maui and O’ahu. Looks like locals of Hawaii use them like buses between the islands.
Honolulu airport at O’ahu was the busiest airports of the islands we’ve been too. Uber it was to the hotel. A short 3 to 4 mile trip.
Arrived at the Trump International Hotel at Waikiki. I think I did right with this hotel as Michele says it’s the best she’s been in, it should be at 5*. The only grumble from her (Widow Twankey) was that some rooms had washing machines and dryers but not ours! Well I suppose she’s not washed clothes for over two weeks now and is getting withdrawal symptoms. But the room has a microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee maker and a bum washer and dryer in the bathroom!
We are on the 21st floor and Michele is not keen on the balcony LOL. We have partial views over the sea, Diamond Head as well as the mountains in the middle of the island.
We had a quick call with mum and dad who seemed well albeit a little jaded after the Queens funeral. We also had a quick text conversation with Warren and Dawn who advised that their son Adam was in Mexico and was possibly being evacuated due to a 7.5 recorded earthquake and possible tsunami. Stay safe Adam!
Once checked in we headed out to acquaint ourselves with the area. Hot sandy beaches with turquoise water were in every direction. We stopped off for lunch and I had the first burger of the trip, wow one of the best I’ve ever had.
Michele wanted to find the HQ of one of her favourite shows ‘Hawaii 50’ we found it ok and took a picture to prove it under the king’s statue outside of his palace
Once back at the hotel we called in to the ABC Store for some provisions and then had a quick 10 minute call with Terri and Rick in California.
Now settled on the balcony eating a tuna sandwich and also an egg mayonnaise sandwich, washed down with a couple of cans of local IPA. 5* at its best!
After the quiet island of Kauai we were a little disappointed with Maui as it was busier. However we knew that O’ahu was going to be very busy but not too disappointed. But it’s like Benidorm with all the high-rise hotels. But oh.
