Busy weekend past and a pleasant weekend this week

Last weekend

Last weekend saw us with a delivery of wood ready for the log burner during winter months.

Martin the farmer arrived at 09:00 sharp with the trailer full of logs. The pair of us started to empty the trailer by hand as there was only limited power in the trailer tilt system to tilt it up so far!

Emptied and now left on the drive ready to be hand-balled through the garage and Utility Room to the log store in the back garden.

I have three strong sons but not one in sight as they were all working. So, it was left to Michele and myself to move all the logs.

3 hours later it was all neatly packed away for winter all except for one bag full of logs that have been left in the garage.

Not a bad price either as it was £110 for the full trailer which I am hoping will be enough for the winter season.

Then it was time for a well-deserved beer!

This weekend

This weekend was our last weekend at hope before Michele and I head off to Crete for two weeks holiday.

But as it will be my birthday while we are away Michele had organised for friends and family to visit to wish me Happy Birthday.

Sam and the grandchildren (Harry and Nancy) came over for lunch which was great fun. Lewis and Keenan too but sadly Drew and Josh was working, while Matt was at Old Trafford watching United play Leicester City. Sadly, mum and dad couldn’t come as dad was suffering with a heavy cold. We’ll catch up with them when we get home.

After lunch we watched the ‘Tour of Britain‘ on TV while we tracked its route as it started off in Altrincham and finished off on Deansgate, Manchester. But part of the route took it through Hindley Green, Wigan where we live.

Harry and I were last to leave the house for the short walk to Atherton Road where we only had a short wait before they came through in three batches. There was a breakaway of three riders, then a chasing pack of about thirty riders about 2 minutes behind. The third section on the road was further 2 minutes behind with about a further fifty riders.

The race organisers were very well drilled on keeping the road free of cars as they swept past at about 25 mile/hour. Once through we headed home to see if we could see ourselves on the TV but as per the Vuelta a Espana in Spain in 2011 it went to an add break as they came past us!

In the evening we had the Farrant-Parson gang over for tea and some drinks.

Sunday was a lazy start for Michele and I before the packing for Crete was finished. Later in the afternoon we had the Bray’s over with a card and some craft beers for me. Now sat waiting for Helen to pop over.
