AutoCAD 2013 – the new features

AutoCAD 2013: The New Features with a Cheeky Twist

So, my dear friends, I’ve just endured—I mean enjoyed—a one-hour webinar on the dazzling new features of AutoCAD 2013, all courtesy of one of Autodesk’s resellers. And let me tell you, some of these new goodies look positively delightful. I’m practically itching to get my hands on a copy for the office.

Preparing for the New Arrival

As we’re on an active subscription with our reseller (oh, the perks!), we’ll soon be graced with a shiny new copy. However, our IT team will need to whip up a deployment group to smoothly transition us from the 2012 version to this 2013 marvel. Before this grand update is rolled out to the entire team, it’s my duty to take it for a spin and ensure it’s as stable as a British butler’s upper lip.

Testing and Green Lights

Once I’ve given AutoCAD 2013 a thorough test drive, As I’m CAD Manager I’ll be the one to give the green light for its rollout. So, fingers crossed, within a couple of weeks, we’ll be basking in the glory of all its new features.

A Slight Diversion: CSCS Exam Day

Switching gears for a moment, tomorrow is the big day for our CSCS exams. For those not in the know, these exams are part of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme, which grants us the golden ticket to visit construction sites. My exam is at the ungodly hour of 09:30 tomorrow morning. So, good luck to all the lads and lasses taking the test. Let’s aim for a clean sweep of passes, shall we?

The Star of the Show: AutoCAD 2013 Features

Now, let’s dive into the meat of it, shall we? What’s so special about Autodesk AutoCAD 2013 that has us all on tenterhooks?

Enhanced User Interface

First up, the user interface has had a lovely makeover. It’s more intuitive, which means less time faffing about trying to find the tools you need. Everything’s neatly organised, making it a breeze to navigate.

Command Line Improvements

The command line, that beloved staple of AutoCAD, has also seen some nifty improvements. It’s now more responsive and offers auto-complete suggestions as you type. It’s like it’s reading your mind, but less creepy.

File Tabs

File tabs are another smashing addition. These tabs allow you to switch between open drawings with the click of a mouse. No more fumbling around with multiple windows. Efficiency, thy name is AutoCAD 2013!

Cloud Integration

Cloud integration is another feature that’s bound to tickle your fancy. You can now save your drawings to the cloud, making collaboration with team members a doddle. Plus, it’s a great way to ensure your files are backed up and accessible from anywhere.

Improved Performance

Performance enhancements are always welcome, and AutoCAD 2013 does not disappoint. It runs smoother and faster than its predecessor, making for a more pleasant user experience. Who doesn’t love a bit of extra speed?

Array Enhancements

Array enhancements are also worth mentioning. The new path array feature allows you to create arrays along a path, making it easier to design complex patterns. This is a real time-saver for those intricate projects.

Point Cloud Support

Point cloud support has been beefed up as well. You can now attach point cloud files directly into your drawings, making it easier to work with 3D scan data. This is particularly handy for those working in fields like architecture and engineering.

Hatch Improvements

Hatch improvements round out the list of highlights. You can now create and edit hatches more easily, with more control over their appearance. It’s the little things that make a big difference.

Wrapping Up

So there you have it, folks—a cheeky yet charming rundown of the new features in AutoCAD 2013. With its enhanced user interface, improved performance, and a host of other nifty updates, it’s shaping up to be a real game-changer. Stay tuned for more updates once I’ve had a chance to put it through its paces.

And best of luck to everyone on their CSCS exams tomorrow! Let’s ace it and get back to what we do best—creating brilliant designs with our trusty AutoCAD.
