Peace and Quiet Over!
Boys Brigade Return
Well, the blissful calm of the past week has come to a screeching halt. The lads have returned from their Boys Brigade camp in Whitby, North Yorkshire! Judging by the stories they’re bursting to tell, it seems they had a cracking time. Both boys appear remarkably unfazed by their adventurous week, though Sunday has been spent in serene recovery at home.
Our Week of Peace
For us, the week of tranquillity was a pleasant mix of work by day and relaxation by evening. Each day, we revelled in the rare opportunity to unwind in utter peace.
Michele’s Mishap
However, Michele’s week wasn’t entirely trouble-free. On Tuesday, she came down with a nasty bout of conjunctivitis. Her left eye was red, weepy, and downright sore. A trip to the local walk-in centre was required, where, after a reasonable wait, she was prescribed some miraculous ointment. By the next day, her eye showed considerable improvement. But, in typical Michele fashion, she stubbornly trudged off to work despite barely being able to see!
Visitors from London
Friday brought a delightful twist as friends from London made their way up for a weekend visit. Their journey was an absolute nightmare, thanks to the notorious M25 and the sluggish M6. Nevertheless, they finally arrived, greeted by our ‘family favourite chicken and vegitable bake with a topping of crisps‘ meal.
Friday Evening Catch-Up
The evening was a jovial one. We sat in the sun room, beers and wines in hand, catching up on everything since our last meeting in August 2012. It was a brilliant night of reminiscing and laughter.
Saturday in Liverpool
Saturday kicked off with a hearty breakfast of bacon butties before we all headed off to Liverpool for the day. True to form, Brian seemed to jinx our travel as we immediately hit traffic on the East Lancs Road. Just as we thought our woes were over, another jam greeted us in Everton Valley – Liverpool were at home, of course!
Exploring the City
Despite the delays, we finally made it, parked up, and spent the day wandering around Liverpool. The city was buzzing, and we soaked up the atmosphere, though Brian’s traffic curse struck again as we got caught up in the post-Anfield rush.
Home Surprises
Upon our return, we were pleasantly surprised to find the washing line full of clean, dry clothes and another batch in the washing machine. It was a lovely, unexpected touch.
Saturday Night Italian
That evening, Michele, Helen, Brian, and I treated ourselves to a delightful Italian meal at Andiamo’s, Westhoughton while the boys opted for a takeaway at home. The meal was superb, and the company even better.
A Lazy Sunday
Sunday was wonderfully lazy. Helen and Brian headed back home, thankfully experiencing a much smoother journey than their trek up. We spent the rest of the day lounging, recharging for the week ahead.
What Will This Week Bring?
And now, as we bid farewell to another peaceful Sunday, we can only wonder – what does the coming week have in store?
