Retail Revelry: A Day of Shopping in Playa del Carmen

Hola from Mexico 2017: Day Five – Retail Therapy!

Early Birds on a Shopping Spree

Well, well, well! Rise and shine, my fellow adventurers, for today marks the glorious occasion of SHOPPING DAY! The crack of dawn saw us bounding out of bed with the enthusiasm of children on Christmas morning. Why? Because today, my friends, we embark on a retail odyssey! With the sun barely kissing the horizon, we found ourselves poised outside our humble abode, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the local chariot known as the collectivo. Promptly at 09:00 hours, our carriage arrived, ready to whisk us away to the retail paradise that is Playa del Carmen. And would you believe it? A mere 40 pesos (that’s a mere £1.70 for you fine folk across the pond) secured our passage on this adventure!

All Aboard the Retail Express!

The journey was as delightful as it was brief, a mere thirty minutes punctuated by the occasional pit stop to pick up the locals. And guess what? Yours truly and my beloved companion were the only tourists on board! As we rolled into Playa del Carmen, it became abundantly clear that we were about to enter a retail wonderland. Picture-perfect streets lined with shops galore, beckoning us with promises of treasures untold. But let’s not beat around the bush here – amidst the sea of souvenir stalls, we managed to unearth some real gems. Christmas gifts? Check. And brace yourselves, for I finally mustered the courage to snag a pair of Oakley sunglasses that I’ve been eyeing for what feels like eons! Michele, ever the tech aficionado, treated herself to the latest iPhone X – a steal compared to the prices back home. Bonus? Oh, you betcha! We’re even poised to claim back some of that pesky tax.

Lunch, Lounging, and Lobster Extravagance

With our retail cravings satisfied (for now), it was time to refuel the engines with a spot of lunch. £20 later, we found ourselves satiated and ready to tackle the rest of the day. A quick jaunt back to the hotel via taxi (400 pesos – a bargain at twice the price) and we were back in paradise. While Michele indulged in some much-needed sun worship, I reclined on a Balinese bed, lost in the pages of a good book. Ah, the sweet serenade of relaxation!

An Evening of Culinary Delights

As the sun dipped below the horizon, signalling the end of another glorious day, our thoughts turned to dinner. And what better way to cap off our adventures than with a taste of France? The evening’s fare was a veritable feast for the senses. Michele sampled the ham soup, though her enthusiasm was dampened by its rather chilly reception – quite literally! As for me, I opted for the lobster bisque, a decision I shall not soon regret. A shared plate of Ratatouille whetted our appetites before the pièce de résistance arrived – Michele savoured a succulent rack of lamb whilst I delved deeper into the world of lobster with a decadent lobster thermidor. First time? Oh, you better believe it, and it certainly won’t be the last!

A Sneak Peek at Tomorrow’s Antics

And so, dear reader, as we bid you goodnight and retire to our chambers, let me leave you with a tantalising glimpse of tomorrow’s escapades. Whilst Michele basks in the warm embrace of the sun, I shall be glued to the screen, eagerly awaiting the clash of titans as Chelsea takes on United. 11:00 here, but a respectable 16:00 back home. Until then, adieu!
