A Merry Christmas Revisited: Work, Flu, and BIM Talks!

The Post-Holiday Blues

Ah, Christmas 2015 – the time of year when the only decision you want to make is whether to have one more mince pie or call it a day. But alas, the vacation bubble burst, and like a superhero, we found ourselves back at our desks, blinking at the computer screen, wondering how on earth two weeks of blissful holiday vanished in a blink.

The Tale of Two Worlds

While Michele, Josh, and I were enjoying the decadence of holiday feasts, poor Lewis, the unsung hero, was sweating it out in the kitchen at Radisson Blu. Christmas Eve to the day after Boxing Day, that brave chef danced with pots and pans, creating culinary magic. The rest of us? Well, we were mastering the art of festive overindulgence – a feat that requires strategic planning and an elastic waistband.

Dodging the Flu Bullets

Rumors of a flu bug sweeping through work and family circles were as common as unwanted fruitcakes. Miraculously, the Fantastic Four – Michele, Josh, Lewis, and yours truly – emerged unscathed. Call it luck, call it an immunity jackpot; we dodged the flu bullets like seasoned secret agents. Mission accomplished!

A CAD Manager’s Musings

Back to work, and there was no easing into it; it was more like a cannonball splash into the deep end. Bids to prepare, CAD standards to revamp – the work cavalry charged in, waving their project proposals and digital blueprints. As the CAD manager, I took it upon myself to make our CAD standards as appealing as a freshly baked batch of Christmas cookies. Judging by the lack of complaints, I’d say success was on the menu!

London Calling

Amidst the chaos, a glimmer of excitement – a trip to London! As the designated CAD captain, I set sail to meet colleagues from RTKL and Hyder Consulting. The agenda? Discussing BIM strategies, figuring out how to make our digital worlds collide more harmoniously. It’s a CAD love story, and London is our romantic backdrop.

From Paris with Love and Defiance

In the midst of project deadlines and CAD triumphs, the world outside our office echoed with the grim resonance of tragedy. Paris, a city of lights, saw darkness in the form of heinous terrorist attacks. But like a phoenix rising from the ashes, more than three million people united, declaring in one voice, “Not on our watch!” Forty world leaders stood arm in arm, a symbol of solidarity against those who wish to silence freedom.

Conclusion: Madness, an Uninvited Guest

As the week unfolded, the contrast between our bustling work lives and the tumultuous world events left us pondering: when will this madness end? The quest for an answer continues, but in the meantime, we navigate the sea of deadlines, CAD drawings, and the occasional existential crisis.
