Chicago Bean

Chicago 2014 – Day Seventeen

Well today has been our last full day here as tomorrow (Tuesday) is packing and flight home, we fly out at 15:45 from O’Hare to Dublin then kick back out an hour after landing to Manchester. Arriving back in the UK in the early hours of Wednesday morning ????

Julie, Chris and the never to be forgotten Elle have made us so welcome in their home. We’ve all really got on very well with no squabbles and only a little bit of silliness from Lewis and Chris!

Today Michele, Josh, Elle and I have been back into Chicago to use the last of our pre-booked trips up while Julie went back to work and Chris and Lewis slept!

First stop was to find Fire House 51 from Chicago Fire (American TV series). Eventually found it in Little Italy a small suburb of Chicago. The Fire House is a working fire station and belongs to squad 18. Michele was a little disappointed that the actors were not there but enjoyed it all the same.

The weather this morning was dull and low cloud so we delayed our trip to the Hancock Tower until later this afternoon in the hope that the cloud would lift.

We parked up at Navy Pier and headed off to the fun fair. Not much choice but the Ferris wheel was OK but I made the mistake of going on the tall swing merry-go-round and paid the price by feeling sick with a head ache all day. Think we all enjoyed the crazy golf even though I won ????

The weather did clear and we were treated to bright sunshine and clear skies. So after lunch we went over to the Hancock Tower which is slightly smaller than the Willis Tower but no less impressive. The views over the city and lake are fantastic and was a fitting end to our holidays here in Chicago. We even paid the upgrade to go on the “Tilt” where you stand up against the glass windows and get tilted out by 30°. Elle wouldn’t go on it so became our camerawoman, Michele didn’t like it and had to shut her eyes, while Josh and I had a laugh.

Another quick round of crazy golf (again I was the winner) before heading home to see my cousin for the last evening.

Great family holiday ????
