From Pharmacies to Pints: A Chicago Saga

A Day of Unexpected Turns: Chicago 2016 Day Seven

Not Quite the Typical Day Seven

Well, well, well, Chicago! You never fail to surprise, do you? Our day began with the promise of sunshine and adventure, but fate had other plans in store for us.

The Unwelcome Visitor: A Poorly Wife

Picture this: warm sunshine streaming through the curtains, birds chirping outside, and a gentle breeze kissing your cheeks. A perfect morning in the Windy City, right? Wrong. Our day took an unexpected turn when Michele woke up feeling like a ship caught in a storm – nauseous, hot, cold, with a blocked nose, and to top it off, a pounding headache. Oh, the joys of travel!

A Quest for Relief

In times of distress, a knight in shining armour is needed. Or in my case, a desperate husband in search of pharmaceutical salvation. Off I went on a mission to find a pharmacy, not too far away thankfully. A quick chat with the pharmacist, a handful of tablets procured, and back to the hotel I hurried. Little did I know, the tablets would betray us, causing poor Michele to be violently sick. Ah, the irony of seeking relief only to find more misery!

The Lone Explorer

With Michele under the weather and no desire to burden our friends Julie and Joe, I decided to embark on a solo adventure. Armed with their access card for the arboretum at Morton, I set off to explore amidst the tranquil beauty of nature. Parking the car at the visitor centre, I opted to wander the perimeter trails, soaking in the sunshine and serenity. A few miles later, with ‘Big Rock’ as my final destination, I relished the rare opportunity to enjoy my own company. The only company I encountered? Perhaps a woodpecker’s rhythmic tapping in the distant trees.

A Pint and Some Solace

Returning from my solitary escapade, I found Joe seeking solace of his own at Warren’s Ale House in Wheaton. After swapping stories over a pint, I bid Joe farewell and made my way back to check on Michele. Finding her resting but still plagued by a persistent headache, I resolved to return to our hosts’ abode.

Meetings, Nail Salons, and House Reports

Back at Julie and Joe’s, the scene was bustling with activity. Tom, Joe’s best man, had arrived, adding to the lively atmosphere. As the girls returned from their nail salon excursion, discussions turned to more serious matters – house reports and negotiations. With Joe’s dad making a timely appearance, I took my leave to tend to Michele’s needs.

A Night of Rest and Reflection

And now, here I am, nestled in bed, recounting the day’s events. Tomorrow holds the promise of new adventures, but for now, it’s an early night for us both. Who knows what surprises await us in the Windy City?
