My brother Rob & I

Beer and chat

Again, I knew this would happen yesterday’s post is today and not because of beer and chat!

Yesterday has been in the diary for a couple of months, we were looking forward to a beer and chat.

Lazy morning followed by a quick lunch then off to Daisy Hill train station for the train to Manchester Victoria.

The weather in Manchester was not as warm and bright as it had been in Hindley Green.

Manchester Pubs

Pub number one

First pub was Mother Mac’s on Back Piccadilly. Michele’s face was a picture, what sort of pub have you brought me too was going through her mind. Mother Mac’s is a typical back street pub. As Michele said it’s full of old men. Rob and Sarah were late as they had to wait for a tram then they struggled to find it. They got there eventually, and we had a reasonable pint of Boddingtons.

Pub number two

Second pub was a short walk away. Port Street Beer House where we had two pints in here. The last one I had was the best it was Titanic Black Ice great dark bitter. I think both Michele and Sarah liked this too.

Pub number three

The third pub was the Crown and Anchor only twenty meters away from Port Street Beer House. Not you’d expect from the outside, but the inside was fresh, modern, and spacious. Rob wasn’t too sure about the placement of the pub. He suggested that it would not have been out-of-place in the Gay Village. Nice pint of Timothy Tailors Landlord though.

Then it was time for some food and back off to Piccadilly. Michele took us off to Pizza Express and knew the menu off by heart! Proves how often she goes with the girls from work.

Pub number four

Meanwhile the fourth pub was The Castle on Oldham Street. It was very crowded in The Castle as there was a band in the back room, but we managed OK. I had a great pint of Dizzy Blonde. There were some characters in here and Rob was highly amused by a bloke eating a pickled egg!

Pub number five

Our fifth pub should have been The Marble Arch on Rochdale Road. I got mixed up and we wandered further up Oldham Street. Michele said no more as she was fearing for her life! so, we turned around and went back into Manchester. We ended up at the Unicorn for one last beer before the train and trams home.

We had to wait 45 minutes for a train home from Victoria. Michele had a hot chocolate, and I had a quarter pounder from Mcdonalds.

Train journey home on the mad train that was rammed to bursting. It was OK until some fools decided to sing Anti United and Munich songs. I had to say something in response. All ended peacefully though.

Great afternoon and evening will have to do it again soon.
