A Whirlwind Week in the Office: Revit, Pints, and Property Schemes!

Revving It Up in the Office: A Week of Schemes and Shenanigans

This past week has been nothing short of a rollercoaster in our bustling office. With schemes pouring in from every corner of the business, we found ourselves juggling between the realms of Social Infrastructure and Property. A feat worthy of applause, or perhaps, a few sympathetic emojis.

A Team in Disarray and a Property Scheme on the Horizon

Julian was deep in the trenches of Education Funding Agency work, Carl decided to take his annual leave (as one should), and our colleagues down South continued their tradition of not offering a helping hand—cue the sad face emoticon. Amidst this chaos, Julian (bless his soul) thrust a Property Team scheme upon us.

The task at hand wasn’t rocket science, but instead of the trusty AutoCAD, we opted for a rendezvous with Revit. Now, if only we had that Revit Families training we’ve been eyeing! Nevertheless, we soldiered on, space planning an office fit-out for a 125-seat extravaganza, complete with a mix of 4 and 6-person desks. Oh, and don’t forget the 4 number 6-person ‘touch-down’ desks – because who doesn’t love a touch of pizzazz?

Revit, Riddles, and a Round of Pints

With the speed of a caffeinated sloth, we managed to shuffle furniture layouts and whip up existing, demolition, and proposed layouts with Revit’s finesse. Approval for Revit Families training is still pending, but hey, at least we sent everything off to our Quantity Surveyors in time. We even found a moment to concoct two dazzling options.

Back in the trenches of core work for the Manchester Education Team, I juggled Development Plans and cleared a planning application for a teachers’ staff room facelift. The week, much like a Marvel movie, culminated with a post-work pint fiesta at the new kid in town, Piccadilly Tap on Station Approach Manchester.

Pint-sized Excursions and CAD Sheet Dilemmas

Friday’s lunchtime pint crew, a mighty 8 of us, descended upon the bar like office warriors seeking refuge. We split into tactical groups of four to make the daunting cost of buying rounds a tad more palatable. Meanwhile, our CAD drawing sheets, despite the company rebranding over three weeks ago, were nowhere in sight. The AutoCAD and Revit sheets alike seemed to have vanished into the abyss.

Expect more of the same chaos next week, I suppose.

Weekend Chronicles: Car Shopping, Chilli Con Carne, and Entrepreneurial Ventures

The weekend, a beacon of hope and frivolity, unfolded with Michele and me embarking on a quest for a new set of wheels. The Mitsubishi ASX crossover beckoned, but as I sized it up, doubts lingered. Does it dwarf the Nissan Quashai of yesteryear? The car debate, like a Shakespearean drama, awaited its resolution.

Post-shopping spree for work attire in Warrington, we ventured to Bents Garden Centre near Leigh. A visual feast awaited us, thanks to a recent refurbishment. The only question now is, do we return before Christmas hits?

Saturday evening was a culinary escapade at our friends Warren and Dawn’s abode. Dawn’s Chilli con Carne was the star of the show, complemented by ‘Old Speckled Hen.’ A cozy evening that concluded promptly at 21:00, respecting Dawn’s need for rest after a day’s toil.

Sunday dawned as a day of rest, with a sprinkle of Revit practice to keep the skills sharp. A quick visit to Michele’s parents across the road revealed smiles and contentment.

Family Chronicles and Future Entrepreneurs

A chat with my daughter Sam shed light on her upcoming adventures in Sheffield and Nottingham. To add to the excitement, she and her husband, Matt, have birthed a new business entity, ‘Sammy and Matt – business builder and mentors.’ A toast to their endeavors—because, as they say, you never know unless you try.

Lewis and Drew, amidst the chaotic dance of life, have been MIA this week. The catering trade, an unforgiving mistress, demands its toll in hours.

At the 6th Form Opening Evening, Michele, Josh, and I scouted options for Josh post-GCSEs. Business Studies and dreams of entrepreneurship led the way. Perhaps a book on entrepreneurship is in order for young Josh?

Conclusion: Homeland, Lunch Duties, and the Unpredictable Week Ahead

As I wrap up this rollercoaster of a week, ‘Homeland’ (season 5) beckons on Channel 4. Duty calls, quite literally, as it’s my turn to whip up lunch for tomorrow. Another week of unpredictability awaits, but as they say, bring it on!
